I'm storing birth year as a part of a member database. So a member row contains e.g. birth_year = 1973.
Out of the box, the query field for this birth year field lets you enter a year value. But this is not very useful for what I'm going to use this for.
I'm after a solution where I can specify an Age range in the query field. Something like:
Age < 15
Age 15-30
Age 30-50
Age > 50
Is this possible to configure somehow?

I assume that in List mode you want to display for example users age 30-50. Add some A HREF tags in the page footer which allow you to set various filters (evaluated in the header on the next reload). Make your custom filters persistent. You might find related examples by searching the forum for 'persist'.

Thanks, I'll check out how that works. I'm after a solution that works inline with the search query form.
I.e. when I open the search query panel, I want to display a drop down with age ranges, instead of the plain input that lets me enter an exact year value (this query is way too restrictive for what I'm using it for).

You'll need to make a copy of the class file and hack it to create the desired drop down.

Yeah thats what I feared, but before looking into it I wanted to ensure that it couldn't be done via configuration :-D Thanks again.
Btw, I just discovered phpMyEdit - cool stuff! Its been a while since last release - is the project still alive?
The devs should consider moving the project to sourceforge and let in some new people on the dev team perhaps?

I'd call it a mature project, few if any bugs using the current CVS version. Maintainers Nepto and HBernard compiled a list of proposed modifications recently but apparently haven't found time to implement them.
