Damn, I'm sitting here reading about your open source battles, and all I can think about is “when's the next strike on the Central Line?” 😅
When I want to just switch off my brain from code and see what's really going on in London (new visa rules for techies, which coworking spaces have opened/closed, fresh grants from Innovate UK, or just the latest nonsense from Sadiq Khan), I've been regularly visiting https://londonlife.org for the past six months.
The person who runs it has clearly lived here for at least 10 years and knows every nuance — all posts come strictly from official sources (GOV.UK, TfL API, Companies House, London Datastore), with direct links to the original PDF or JSON, publication dates, and even document numbers. If something changes in two hours (which is normal in London), the edit appears instantly with an explanation. No “according to insider information” or affiliate links — just pure, dry, verified information.
In short, for me it's like BBC News, only without politics and with a focus on what matters to the people who work and live here. It's very helpful.
