Diabetes Mellitus, commonly known as just diabetes, is a metabolic disease causing high blood sugar levels. The hormone insulin moves sugar from the blood into your cells to be stored or used for energy. If you have diabetes, that means your body either doesn't make enough insulin or can't effectively use the insulin it does make.

Diabetes is mainly of the following types-
Type 2 diabetes- A chronic condition that affects the way the body processes blood sugar (glucose). This is the most common type of diabetes seen in adults.

Type 1 diabetes- A chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. It typically appears in adolescence.

Prediabetes- A condition in which blood sugar is high, but not high enough to be type 2 diabetes. Without intervention, it's likely to become type 2 diabetes within 10 years.

Gestational diabetes- A form of high blood sugar affecting pregnant women. Those who develop gestational diabetes are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life. In most cases, there are no symptoms.

Well, diabetes is a disease considered incurable. However, it can be controlled to a very great extent. Even when a person knows he or she has to live with diabetes their whole life, when you know how to control it effectively, it doesn't even bother you.

Well, the main frontier of controlling blood glucose levels is your lifestyle. If you are not within the track of a routine and lifestyle suggested by your doctor to control your diabetes, you need to get hold of it immediately.

A diabetic diet is very essential to follow to balance your blood glucose levels. More than anything, your diet is what actually regulates your diabetes.

Here are some dietary guidelines as to how you can manage your eating pattern and choice of foods to control diabetes.

Foods to eat for a type 2 diabetic diet meal plan include complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, whole wheat, quinoa, oatmeal, fruits, vegetables, beans, and lentils.
Foods to avoid include simple carbohydrates, which are processed, such as sugar, pasta, white bread, flour, and cookies, pastries.
Foods with a low glycemic load (index) only cause a modest rise in blood sugar and are better choices for people with diabetes. Good glycemic control can help in preventing long-term complications of type 2 diabetes.
Protein provides energy with little effect on blood sugar. It keeps blood sugar stable and can help with sugar cravings and feeling full after eating. Protein-packed foods to eat include beans, legumes, eggs, seafood, dairy, peas, tofu, and lean meats, and poultry.
Five diabetes "superfoods" to eat include chia seeds, wild salmon, white balsamic vinegar, cinnamon, and lentils.
Eating low glycemic load carbs should be the priority. The sources include vegetables, fats, and proteins mostly from plant sources.
Cut down on sodas (regular and diet), refined sugars, processed carbohydrates, trans fats, high-fat animal products, high-fat dairy products, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, and any highly processed foods.
Completely abstain from substance abuse like smoking and drinking.

Oral medications
Oral diabetes medicines (taken by mouth) help control blood sugar (glucose) levels in people whose bodies still produce some insulin, such as some people with type 2 diabetes. These medicines are prescribed along with regular exercise and changes in the diet. Many oral diabetes medications may be used in combination with each other or with insulin to achieve the best blood glucose control.

This guide provides general information about one of the best oral medicines for diabetes- Tradjenta. Make sure you take the medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes it. Discuss your specific questions and concerns with your healthcare provider.

What is Tradjenta?
Tradjenta Tablet is a medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It belongs to a group of medicines called DPP-4 inhibitors (or gliptins). It helps increase the amount of insulin your body produces after a meal and to stop your body from releasing too much glucose (sugar) into your blood. This way it lowers the blood glucose levels in your body. It is usually taken once a day and has relatively few common side effects.

It is used together with a healthy diet and regular exercise to control blood sugar levels. This helps to prevent serious complications of diabetes like kidney damage and blindness.

Prescription of Tradjenta
Tradjenta Tablet is normally prescribed when diet and exercise alone or other medicines do not prove sufficient to control your blood sugar level. Your doctor may prescribe it alone or in combination with other diabetes medicines. It can be taken with or without food.

Dosage of Tradjenta
The dose will depend on your condition and blood sugar levels. Use it strictly as advised by your doctor. Do not stop taking the medicine unless your doctor recommends it. It is important to stay on the diet and exercise program recommended by your doctor while taking this medicine. Your lifestyle plays a big part in controlling diabetes.

Side effects of Tradjenta
The most common side effects of Tradjenta is -
Hypoglycemia
Lightheadedness
Sweating
Dizziness
Fainting
dry mouth
nasopharyngitis

Warnings and precautions associated with Tradjenta
Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, or pancreas problems.
Some other medicines you are taking may interfere with this medicine's working. So, make sure your doctor knows about all the other medicines you are using.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking it.
Limit your alcohol intake while taking this medicine because it can increase your risk of developing low blood sugar levels.
You may need regular tests such as kidney function and blood glucose levels to check that the medicine is working properly.

What to keep in mind?
Tradjenta should be taken at the same time every day since this helps you remember to take it.
Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremors, and anxiety.
Be careful while driving or operating machinery until you know how the Tradjenta Tablet affects you. It may cause lightheadedness or dizziness so there are chances of accidents while driving.
Inform your doctor if you notice joint pains or develop symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, and/or vomiting.

Bottom Line
Oral medications and injections are not permanent solutions to diabetes. They work only if you have the right diet and lifestyle routine to control your blood sugar levels. These two treatment methods should work in conjugation to experience the relevant positive outcomes.
