Hydraulic excavations were first made using high-pressure water in the 1800s. Developed the first thin water jets for industrial cutting machines in the 1930s. The Wisconsin Paper Patents Company invented paper metering. It used a continuous-moving waterjet nozzle to slice horizontally moving papers sheets. These were the first applications that used low pressure and only soft materials like paper.
Researchers around the world were looking for cutting techniques in the post-war period. Carl Johnson of Durex International in Luxembourg developed a method to cut plastics with a thin stream, high-pressure waterjet. These materials were, however, more delicate than paper. In1956, Billy Schwacha of North American Aviation developed a system that used ultra-pressure-liquid liquids to cut solids. Can connect high-powered devices.
